Retail IT Deployment Services

Retail IT deployment services live or die on one number: how many stores traded normally this morning. Every terminal swap, network upgrade and self-checkout install has to happen around customers, staff rosters and delivery windows. Miss the window and the store opens late; open late and the project owns that loss.

IMI Solutions has deployed retail technology across Australia and New Zealand since 1999. We rolled out POS to 673 Reddy Express stores in 19 weeks, upgraded 2,000 POS lanes across 560 quick service restaurants, and installed and supported point of sale in 600 Luxottica stores nationwide. Store teams kept serving customers the whole time.

What we deploy in retail

  • Point of sale: terminals, scanner scales, payment devices, receipt printers, cash management
  • Self-checkout and assisted lanes, including AI camera loss-prevention hardware now standard in Australian grocery
  • Store networking: switches, wireless access points, SD-WAN, failover links
  • Back of house: office PCs, handheld scanners, label printers, workstations
  • Digital signage and customer screens
  • New store openings, refits, relocations and closures

One partner covers the full store lifecycle: design, deployment and ongoing support.

The retail constraint: stores never stop

A retail rollout plan starts with the trading calendar, not the technology. We build around it:

Night and pre-open windows. Crews install after close and validate before the first transaction. If a site can't be finished in one window, we design a safe rollback so the store trades on the old kit next morning.

Peak-season freezes. No sensible retailer touches store systems in December. We compress schedules around freeze periods and sequence waves so high-volume stores complete first.

Store-by-store variance. A strip-mall pharmacy, a shopping-centre flagship and a regional outlet share a brand and nothing else. Site audits capture each store's reality before crews are booked, which is how first-visit success stays high and revisits stay rare.

Franchisee coordination. In franchise networks the "site contact" is a business owner. We manage scheduling, communication and sign-off store by store, so the franchisor gets consistency without picking fights.

Legal-for-trade POS: the step retailers forget

Any POS that weighs product (grocery, QSR, fresh food) must be verified legal-for-trade under National Measurement Institute rules. IMI is an NMI nationally licensed verifier, so inspection, testing and Form 6 submission happen during installation. No third-party verifier, no compliance gap between install and first sale. Read how NMI verification works.

How a multi-store rollout runs

  1. Pilot. Two to five representative stores prove the method, timings and playbook.
  2. Waves. Stores group into geographic and logistical waves. Freight, engineers and store comms align to each wave.
  3. Staging. Every device is imaged, configured and kitted per store at our Sydney and Melbourne integration centres, tracked serial-by-serial in IMX.
  4. Install and verify. Engineers install overnight, test transactions end to end, verify scales where required and photograph completed work.
  5. Morning-after support. A hypercare desk answers store calls during the first trading days after cutover.
  6. Close-out. Old assets are removed, wiped and remarketed or recycled, and documentation lands in your asset register.

Greencross put it plainly: with IMI handling procurement, installation and support, "we can get stores opened or reopened faster and commit to dates with confidence." Read the case study.

Frequently asked questions

Can you match new-store opening dates set by leasing? Yes. Store-opening support is a core service. We hold buffer stock, pre-stage kits and schedule crews against your fit-out program.

Do you install self-checkout hardware? Yes, including camera-based loss prevention and assisted-lane configurations now rolling out across Australian grocery.

How do you handle stores in regional towns? The same playbook with adjusted logistics. Regional runs are clustered to control travel cost, and local field resources cover follow-up visits.

Who supports the stores after go-live? We do, if you want one accountable partner: help desk, break/fix and field support under agreed SLAs.
